NO ONE TURNED AWAY
08.30.24
NO ONE TURNED AWAY is a seasonal show that documents the human spirit of all ages DIY movement organizing, the interdependent arts spaces that we’ve called home, and our friends that steward these moments of collective self-determination. What urges us to devote our lives to this, which lessons have we hopefully learned along the way, and how can we pass down our loving labor to the coming generations of punks, lifers, and anarchic daydreamers? Let’s try and find out together.

Welcome to EPISODE TWO featuring local legend, lifer, and one of the most loving luminaries of Los Angeles, Pauline Lay. Pauline is an instrumentalist, composer, and events organizer here in LA largely known and infinitely appreciated for stewarding the legacy of Pehrspace, one of the longest running interdependent arts venues of Los Angeles that after years of closure is now currently housed within 2220 Arts + Archives. She has presented work institutionally throughout the US, but most of us know Pauline through the spirit of DIY venues, backyard shows, and cozy living rooms. In addition to solo performances of improvised violin and electronics, she performs and collaborates with musicians in varying iterations and genres from wildly improvised duos to moderately organized ensembles to large-scale conceptual sonic tapestries.
Sit with us as we discuss Pauline’s gateway into DIY, that good Los Angeles lore, and get into the what’s why’s who’s and how’s of running the local institution that is Pehrspace.
