Dustin Wong - Why Did Why Did Why Did
Dustin Wong - Why Did Why Did Why Did

Co-hosted by Chris Kissel and Chuck Soo-Hoo, the twice-monthly dublab program Contact Wave enthusiastically celebrates the best experimental, avant-garde, psychedelic, and off-the-grid music crafted in L.A. and beyond.

This week’s episode featured Noah Klein, an eccentric enthusiast from Los Angeles who has been deeply rooted in grassroots and interdependent arts communities for nearly two decades. He has a dense history of co-organizing among radical arts collectives such as the Silent Barn and coordinating events like FMLY Fest, Ambient Church and Printed Matter’s Art Book Fairs. Since 2008 he has released about 16 solo and collaborative collections informed by field recordings and deep listening, mostly with a constellation of now defunct cassette labels. He also tours as the bassist and flautist in the rotating ensemble of Mutual Benefit and operates a limited run cassette label, Never Content, that has helped to share music from Sonoda, Dustin Wong, Ki Oni, Patrick Shiroishi, Zachary Paul, and many more compassionate expressions from our local lifers. Over the last several years his own performances and recordings have shifted to illuminate and attune to the stories of the land and natural world through nomadic flute experiments, field recording, and plants of various bioregions. For this episode of Contact Wave he has put together a brief mix highlighting some of his favorite legacy flautists, featuring recordings roughly from the 1960s to the 1990s.
