NO ONE TURNED AWAY is a seasonal show that documents the human spirit of all ages DIY movement organizing, the interdependent arts spaces that we’ve called home, and our friends that steward these moments of collective self-determination. What urges us to devote our lives to this, which lessons have we hopefully learned along the way, and how can we pass down our loving labor to the coming generations of punks, lifers, and anarchic daydreamers? This month’s in-studio interview has been postponed due to the ongoing fires in Los Angeles. I’m an emotional wreck right now, so rather than bring anyone in at the last minute, I’d like to share this hour to offer enormous love for Zorthian Ranch, which was nearly entirely decimated by the Eaton Fire. Throughout my life the ranch has been far more than a symbol, it has been the daily lived-in practice of art as a vehicle for social liberation. Dr. Angela Davis says that “you have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world and you have to do it all the time.” Zorthian Ranch is a haven for the radical, the esoteric, the counterculture, the underground, and a beacon for the Los Angeles we can be. Since 2021 it has been an honor to be invited by the Zorthian family to share life, art. and meaningful moments as an organizer, and through this hour we’ll sit with just some of the (raw & unmixed) performances that my friends and I have held in the upper ranch. Hopefully later this year Caroline, Julia, and Tara can come visit us here on the air at dublab.
