Out There ~ a Field Recording Program
09.05.24
Voyage with dublab into new worlds. Each week we present a long-form field recording that will transport you through the power of sound.
This recording was made at McGee Creek, a small, spring fed tributary that leads into Crowley Lake in the Eastern Sierras. At the southeast corner of Crowley Lake, you’ll find the Long Valley Dam; the nexus of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s water management program in the Owens Valley. The Long Valley Dam mitigates water flow into the Owens River, controlling water distribution throughout the Owens Valley for recreational, agricultural and tribal “use”. The largest allotment is owned by LADWP for the purpose of supplying Los Angeles with tap water. This field recording is a continuation of our Cyborg Watershed study. Through deep listening, we honor the mountain stream before it joins the Los Angeles Aqueduct to provide for a city over 400 miles away.
Tune-in, open up, and venture out there as we take excursions into evocative audio fields together.
