Chee Shimizu - guest session

On Sound Study, Xandão will follow unexpected resonances, feedback, and musical migration around the world. Tune in for situated listening, original field recordings, and occasional interviews with guest DJs, artists, and scholars.

Armando Hernandez is a Mexican film enthusiast, writer and archivist. Part-time albañil. Wannabe galán. Based in Pomona, California.

For the last ten years he has run Trash-Mex:
a site dedicated to the obscure, forgotten and “trashy” Mexican films of the past. “Trashy” is not necessarily a negative word. It just means that some of these films were thrown away and buried until I, Armando Hernandez, unearthed all these films by writing about them accurately, sometimes humorously and with zero exaggerations & no false information whatsoever. All films covered are from the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s & early 2000’s.

This show incorporates an interview with Armando on his 4,000 deep Mexican VHS collection along with a selection of music, sounds, and dialog from some rare, cult cine mexicano.
