Founded in 2010, Sonido Gallo Negro is a large, instrumental combo from Mexico City with roots in the San Juan de Aragon barrio. Inspired by cumbia sonidera, they channel the mystique and mysticism of 1960s Peruvian psychedelic cumbia while integrating surf rock, huayno, and boogaloo with electric guitars, Farfisa organ, Theremin, flute, and driving Latin percussion. Sonido Gallo Negro drenches their music with acid visions, science fiction, and folklore. They have performed in 30 countries, collaborated with artists including Grupo Kual? and have recorded five studio albums and one live album.
