Karim & Mara are soulmate homies that met in their late youth and quickly discovered that Cairo and Miami culture bleed into each other in magic ways. Discoteca 3ala Mars presents explorations of musical lineages between Masr, the 305 and the broader musical traditions of the surrounding regions and cultures. The intention is to explore and enjoy sounds that shape the experiences of third culture kids outside of the places they’re from.

Zekkereya is a musician, artist, animator, educator, a curious listener, a thoughtful player, a valued friend. Throughout their musical journey they have worked and studied with many members of the LA and Detroit jazz communities, played with the Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra for the last 10 years and released a number of solo and collaborative projects.
They joined us for a particularly special broadcast where they conducted D3M’s very first live performance followed by a brief interview where we discussed the layers of complexity in maqam, the musical tendencies of the Arab diaspora in the US, Black Music, and how we can keep a sense of who we are through expression.
