Discoteca 3ala Mars
12.21.24
Karim & Mara are soulmate homies that met in their late youth and quickly discovered that Cairo and Miami culture bleed into each other in magic ways. Discoteca 3ala Mars presents explorations of musical lineages between Masr, the 305 and the broader musical traditions of the surrounding regions and cultures. The intention is to explore and enjoy sounds that shape the experiences of third culture kids outside of the places they’re from.

In our closing episode of 2024, Grandfather joined us in the studio for a special one hour feature of all African funk. We basked in the clarity, vibrancy and gathering of a brisk winter morning in the studio. This one is for deep listening… if you’re craving more, the last track “Free My People” by Joni Haastrup is sampled on Grandfather’s new album “ALLFORYOU” to be released in early 2025. Tune in anticipation.
Check out his show on dublab right before ours each month, third saturdays 6-8pm PST.
“2092 Presents… Funk Radio is an exploration of various genres and the records that influence and shape the vast medium of music. As we examine an artist/genre and inevitably the producers, we are reminded of the rich culture that has proceeded us; and the importance of acknowledgement and transformation in practice. THESE ARE THE RECORDS THAT MAKE US!”
