Atlas
07.19.20

Atlas is a monthly show hosted by Barbarelle, broadcasted live from Camping*, Buenos Aires. Connecting different parts of the world with obscure tracks, Barbarelle takes us through a deep and evolving sonic landscape. From Ambient, Experimental and Jazz, to Latin, African and Middle East sounds, this imaginary musical journey evoques the -both subtle and deep- connection between worlds, existent and imaginary.
Due to COVID-19 and obligatory quarantine in Argentina, Atlas is going to be streamed from Barbarelle’s home.
On this special episode, Barbarelle selected songs dedicated to the realm of plants, and featured two special guests.
Iván Lee is an Argentinian musician based in NYC. He joined the show talking about his experience with plant music and he performed live with a few species. Paula Bernardou, a visual artist from Argentina, will create some visuals inspired on this episode’s topic.
About Iván Lee:
Iván Diaz Mathé is an Argentinian producer that has been developing techniques and sounds since 2003. Focused on sound treatment, Diaz Mathé has gravitated towards Dub, Reggae and Hip Hop, bringing together styles and sounds that are certainly new to South America. Iván is the founder of Crang Records, a label that has been releasing music internationally since 2009, being a fundamental part of the south american scene and building bridges to many countries and different scenes.
Relocated in Brooklyn since 2017, Diaz Mathé started to investigate and experiment with the relation between plants and music. He started recording plants everywhere he went, Argentina, México, and the US from coast to coast, creating a vast library of sounds. What started as mere observation developed into a more interactive approach, tweaking the sounds the plants produced and also playing instruments alongside. He is working on a 100% plant music album and has been performing live concerts both in the US and Argentina.
About Paula Bernardou:
Paula Bernardou is an Argentinian artist and painter based in Buenos Aires. She finds her creative inspiration in music, nature and diverse arts she experiments with.
Paula participated in several festivals such as MUTEK Argentina she also directed visual arts live set ups in concerts and video clips.
