Hazel Clementine is an interdisciplinary artist, stylist and music curator from Charlotte, North Carolina. She creates things with an abstract & experimental approach to her art & music.

Similar with her art, Hazel also curated this mix with an experimental sound.

Experimental music and hip hop being her favorite genres of music, Hazel wanted a way to infuse the two together. Her main inspiration for this mix originated after listening to flying lotus song “1983” and being inspired by how the song makes her feel.

“Flying lotus songs always make me feel like I’m in some crazy dream in outer space, so I curated a playlist titled “Galactic Dreams” to embody the classic Flying Lotus sound. I then extended the playlist into a two hour mix to really make you feel as if you are in a different dimension where certain things aren’t quite normal.”

“I used Ras G’s intro as the first song because it really makes it feel as if you’re taking off into the other dimension. Another planet. Another universe. I had so much fun while curating this mix and really embodying the person who has vivid abstract dreams.”

“Afrofuturism was such a huge inspiration for this mix as well. African Technology, philosophy, art and science were the key foundations. The original piece of work I created for this mix was inspired by afrofuturistic art and science. It was my first time creating art with an afrofuturistic style and I must say I will definitely be creating more pieces of work including mixes like these that further explain & represent African art, technology and science.“
