“with this mix, I wanted to include a theme dear to my heart: da.i.s.y.

it stands for “da inner sound ya’ll”, an acronym created to describe the production techniques and philosophy of De La Soul. It’s about finding yourself through sound, cultivating sonic solidarity and letting peace grow like weeds. The songs I put together are ones I personally associate with “da.i.s.y”, it’s push for inner peace and fertilization of the inner child. Sounds to help water our internal flowers. The study of da.i.s.y in my life is like a 90’s care package/hand-me-down: a patch of solidarity stitched into my heart…dusty cassettes, baseball cards, VHS tapes, a pack of big league chew gum, and a Michael Jordan poster on the wall. Images are framed in my mind of an unassuming kid on the Connecticut side of The Sound (a body of water between CT and Long Island) finding a De La Soul cassette on the ground and taking it home to listen for the first time. That blast of color, especially the incarnation on the cover of ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ is like a modern version of the sudden change to color film in ‘Wizard of Oz”. The emergence of founding mothers and fathers, black musicians and their companions refusing to stay boxed in. Tribes of master cultivators (MC’s) and turntablism healers spinning records as if they were Saturn’s rings.
The native tongues acting like futurist gardens planting perennials. What bloomed for me were always da.i.s.y’s.”
