On October 3rd, 2020, dublab celebrated 21 years of community powered radio with a 24 hour online event, featuring DJ sets and live performances. SOS Music put together this special anniversary broadcast.

Maddy Maia & Tottie – co-founded SOS Music in 2020. Birthed from a radio show and event series with iconic Los Angeles radio station DUBLAB, SOS MUSIC’s goal is to provide a platform for forward-thinking electronic music, with a keen emphasis on female and non-binary talent from around the world.

Maddy Maia & Tottie met in Los Angeles in 2018 and began throwing events and DJing together as Sisters Of Sound. One of their early highlights saw them co-curate LACMA’s Muse ‘Til Midnight, which brought together the first collaboration between DUBLAB & Ninja Tune and Actress, Octo Octa, Yu Su and Julianna Barwick to LACMA’s famous galleries.

SOS Music was the natural next step in the pair’s development as curators and tastemakers. Together they have recently signed a label deal with !K7 in order to seek out and promote diverse underground talent within their community. SOS Music’s debut release, SOS MUSIC Vol. 1 is a 14-track compilation showcasing an international mix of the most exciting womxn producers working in dance music today: Umfang, Minimal Violence, rRoxymore, LCY, Violet, Nightwave, Lara Sarkissian and more.

SOS MUSIC Vol. 1 is international to its core, drawing on influences from the artists’ respective backgrounds including the UK, US, Serbia, Spain, Japan, Slovenia, Portugal, Germany & Canada. A limited run of vinyl will also be made available. Proceeds from the compilation will be donated to three womxn focused charities:

Downtown Women’s Center
Women’s Refugee Commission

Maddy Maia is a Producer, DJ & A&R for iconic British indie label Ninja Tune – London born Los Angeles based Maddy Maia has many strings to her bow, and makes dark, romantic, acid infused house.

Tottie – UK born, now LA based – is a DJ, Musician, curator, and director of events and special projects for the legendary online community radio station DUBLAB.
