shesaidso is a global community of women who work in the music industry. Formed by members of the Los Angeles chapter, shesaidso Radio LA aims to motivate, connect, and showcase the work of inspiring women worldwide. The monthly show features interviews and themed discussions exploring industry news, trends and women’s ever evolving forms of influence within the music ecosystem. Our conversations include the artist/manager relationship, interviews with top talent, tips on how to break into the music industry, and more. The second half of the show includes an exclusive mix or live performance from some of shesaidso LA’s favorite artists. Join host Elyn Kazarian to get inspired by personal stories and tunes from women reshaping the music industry.

Vanessa formally started her career in the music industry 10 years ago (at Interscope records) but her love of music began much earlier – she was constantly surrounded by it growing up (and was obsessed with the songs she heard in the TV show The OC), and even sang in choir for 10 years. Vanessa didn’t exactly know what path she would take, but she knew she wanted to pursue a career in the music industry.

Vanessa was a music journalist (blogger) for many years, starting in college when she wrote for her then-favorite music blog The Kollection; she also eventually wrote for the widely respected HillyDilly.com. After a few years at Universal Music, she moved onto Paramount Pictures where she found her eventual home in the music department. She supervised music for Paramount films in-house, but in 2018 transitioned into working across all shows for Paramount Television Studios, overseeing all music needs across their premium streaming shows – including but not limited to hiring all composers, music supervisors and overseeing their respective processes (i.e. music licensing, writing/recording original composition, etc). In 2018-19 she was also an A&R consultant at the NY-based Mom+Pop records where she scouted up and coming talent on the West Coast.

Vanessa continues to oversee music creative at Paramount Television Studios, and has worked on projects like Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Station Eleven (HBO Max), Jack Ryan (Amazon), 13 Reasons Why (Netflix), The Offer (Paramount+), Defending Jacob (Apple), Shantaram (Apple), Catch 22 (Amazon), Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor (Netflix) – and many more!
