Out There ~ a Field Recording Program
11.14.24

Voyage with dublab into new worlds. Each week we present a long-form field recording that will transport you through the power of sound.
This week’s episode features the sound of various Suikinkutsu’s realized by Metabolic Sonics. A Suikinkutsu or Japanese water drum, usually consists of a ceramic basin buried upside down in the ground with a deliberate stream of water trickling through. The basin acts as a resonator and adds harmonic characteristics to the sound of the falling water. You will hear a selection of different Suikinkutsu-like devices made out of various materials including wild clay harvested from the Los Angeles floodplain, a modified 50,000 gallon water tank and a 80 foot tall silo in Payahuunadu, California.
Tune-in, open up, and venture out there as we take excursions into evocative audio fields together.
