Whether you’re cleaning house, hanging with the fam or cruisin’ with your friends, Lil Smiley and Moniloca have your Sunday vibes on lock with Lowrider Sundays. Part soul music curation of the classic, new, slept-on and rare; part casual conversation with guest DJs, collectors and musicians.
David De Baca was born and raised in San Diego, CA. He grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s. The Lowrider/Chicano lifestyle has always been a huge part of his life. From building Lowrider bikes and model cars as a child to owning multiple Lowriders as an adult. Additionally Lowrider/Chicano art has always been part of his life as well. To this day there are still murals in the bedrooms and the garage at his family’s home that were done 30 to 40 years ago. Since 2005 David has curated lowrider culture based exhibitions at institutions such as MOCA and the Oceanside Museum of Art
Chata is a mixed indigenous/Chicana artist from San Diego California. She credits her artistic inspiration to her cultural upbringing and experiences. Most recognized for her photography and illustrations, she considers herself at heart a story teller. Her work often documents not only her own view but highlights the community around her. Chata is driven by historical knowledge and the importance of self representation. Having grown up in a home that celebrated and cultivated lowriding, art, and music it was only fitting that in 2015 she would align with the Teen Angel project. Since that time Chata has worked under David De Baca in curating and documenting the Legacy of Teen Angels.
