dublab presents the Sounds of Now

This Voidwave episode includes a wondrous conversation with the performance artist and experimental vocalist Anna Homler, who shared a few hours with Katya and Kim, drinking coffee, eating, laughing, and sharing stories of her performance work, life, and lifelong friendships. This episode intermixes an informal conversation with sound works and music that are vocalizations of her interests on a practical level, as well as a metaphysical one. Anna is a treasure living on a magical plane, and It was a pleasure for us all to connect, and to share with you this moment of language, curiosity, dreams, films, conversations with the dead, and many other improbabilities we dive into.

Anna Homler is a vocal, visual and performance artist based in Los Angeles. With a sensibility that is both ancient and post-modern, Homler sings in an improvised melodic language. Her work explores alternative means of communication and the poetics of ordinary things. She creates perceptual interventions by using language as music and objects as instruments. Highlights of her performance art projects include Breadwoman and Parmacia Poetica.

Voidwave is a web of experimental voices, sounds, and interviews with a focus on work by femme, gender non-conforming, and queer folx. Embedded in these sound practices are rebelliousness and longing, hunger for new subversive futures, irreverence, determined perseverance, political potency, uncompromising processes, and includes a celebration of lineages that spans across time and the globe. Voidwave is a 2-hour radio show that features work from artists who use experimental sound and music, performance, field recording, spoken word, sound art, sound poetics, and other disobedient audio speculations – adventures into sound and conversations with the people who made them.

Voidwave is a collaboration by multidisciplinary artists Melissa Vogley Woods in Ohio, Liz Roberts in Berkeley, and Kim Zumpfe and Katya Urban in Los Angeles, with occasional guest collaborators and hosts. Voidwave was formed by Melissa, Liz, and Gina Osterloh.
