Jikken Kōbō: Imagined Tapestries
02.21.24

Jikken Kōbō, meaning experimental workshop in Japanese, was a collaborative and multidisciplinary art collective active during the years of 1951-1957, in the early postwar era of Japan. In this speculative archival mix curated by Kai Kubota- Enright, the listener is guided on a journey exploring a dense network of interrelated sound art from the period, including some of the earliest tape and electronic music in existence. Accompanied by live recitation and improvised soundscape granulation, this avant-garde period is reimagined and reinterpreted for a contemporary audience.
This is part of the SAGE USC THORTON RADIO series at dublab, featuring student and alumni compositions as well as interviews and experimental works. Organized by Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother.
