Shadow Song
04.17.24

What would a conversation with one’s shadow sound like if illuminated by moonlight? LA-based composer, writer, and researcher Anna Heflin manifests this imaginative musical conversation in her radio-specific aria “Shadow Song” (2024) for soprano Andrea Church and KOMA Elektronik Field Kit. Collaging material from celebrated operatic arias by Meyerbeer and Verdi, Heflin’s work reframes the feminine narrative from bereft sorrow to a fantastical inner quest. In addition to the live premiere of this composition, Heflin will share select excerpts from radio operas that informed her research and sparked inspiration.
