Escuchar al Istmo
04.13.25

Between South and North America, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, exists an isthmus made up of seven countries, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Belize, also known as Central America. Escuchar al Istmo, Listen to the Isthmus, focuses on the diverse musical and cultural landscape of Central America. Through music, vinyl record collections and special guests, the show explores cultural context, nostalgia and experiences of the diaspora. Tune in to hear the past and present sounds of the many cultures of Central America.
Joining me this month is DJ Hoseh, a Dublab OG and a pillar within the music community.
Tune in to hear more about his story and the records he’s curated highlighting music and artists from Guatemala. Together we’ll be taking a journey through the many sounds related to the Guatemalan diaspora from traditional to contemporary, some including marimba, cumbia, 70s/80s pop, merengue, rock, and electronic.
DJ Hoseh (neé José C. Salguero) is a Los Angeles native with Guatemalan roots who’s been a part of the city’s music culture fabric for 31 years.
