In times of natural disaster, war, and the warming of our planet, what tools can help us to stretch and act towards a new world in which we recognize that no one is free until we are all free and that our safety is interdependent. This collection of songs and field recordings have been curated and woven together with the intent of creating a safe capsule in which to process feelings regarding both the grief and anger of the immense loss and devastation occurring in our world alongside the sweetness and hope that comes with mutual aid, gathering amidst disaster, and keeping one another safe. This episode is titled a “Sonic Companion” in the hopes that it can act as a supportive resource to accompany you while engaging in your own forms of both personal and collective care work.

This episode features field recordings that Callie took while spending time in Asheville, NC (Cherokee, Yuchi, and Miccosukee land) days before Hurricane Helene resulted in immense devastation along the Appalachian Mountains and beyond. Within the episode there will be highlights of different mutual aid organizations to support and/or share which are working to help the people, forests and homes affected by Hurricane Helene as well as organizations/collectives working to both provide aid and fight for the safety and freedom of Palestinian and Lebanese children, elders, parents, siblings, partners, and all loved ones being affected by the violence in Gaza and Lebanon.
