“This playlist highlights not only most of the Los Angeles community that we are apart of but also records that have shaped us eternally. Many of our friends have poured their heart and souls out on these songs.”
Brothers Aaron and Lawrence Shaw have been playing music together for most of their lives, and their mind-melding connection creates an abundance of interwoven richness in Sounds of Color (World Galaxy / Alpha Pup Records).
Rooted in jazz but existing beyond genre, the album expands the possibilities with its poetic unity and daring spirit. Hello, young world – Black Nile is tapping on your door. “Jyro” escalates into an instrumental heat mirage, flying into orbit as your mind tries to catch up. Crackle and coo fall off a piano into a deep, buttery groove in “For You (feat. Kaylon Hallman).” “Mystery” shines like a treasure with cinematic strings and synths, while flute-forward “Revival (feat. Tru)” lifts up the lid of Pandora’s box. From the tribal technicolor of “Ancient Futurism” to the classic feel of “Tidal Wave,” Sounds of Color transforms universal sonic touchpoints into something completely new.
