dublab presents the Sounds of Now

Welcome to Black Nile’s “Black Art” Playlist, Volume II for dublab.  For this playlist they’re doing something a bit different. In an effort to give you the best of both worlds, they are merging both old and new, songs and artists they have listened to for most of their lives, most of which are from Los Angeles.

Brothers Aaron and Lawrence Shaw have been playing music together for most of their lives. Though Black Nile is rooted in the loose orchestration of jazz, they are not tethered to it. This past December, Black Nile released their sophomore album “The Further Side” on World Galaxy / Alpha Pup Records.

Per a recent Bandcamp review,  “The duo doesn’t deviate much on December’s The Further Side: Where Sounds of Color scanned as cosmic jazz fusion, the new album is closer to the ground, swapping some of the wandering expanse for streamlined instrumentals. The Further Side guides listeners through Black L.A. using the imagined tale of an Oakland DJ visiting the city for the first time.”

“The Further Side’s beginning that blends smooth jazz, free jazz and Quiet Storm soul; this is Black Nile’s calling card. In the end, The Further Side is another fine release from the promising duo.”
