_origins is a virtual experience and new media exhibiton which serves as an ode to Black femmes, womxn, gender non-conforming, and beyond.

_origins features three unique portals where attendees were invited to access, interpret and activate a virtual, collaborative space as a site of embodied thinking, healing, and world-building.

_origins reasserts time into virtual space to reclaim our power through conversations, collaboration, art, and sound rituals.

Envisioned as a platform for reimagining Black femme futures, _origins asks what is preservation? Where is restoration? How do we uplift Black femmes? How do we find collective healing amidst the apocalypse? How do we reimagine mythologies to redefine our state of being? An alternate reality to reclaim our sacred energy? Where is the Black femme paradise?

_origins is curated by black beyond, Creative Director jazsalyn, and Co-curator Shameekia Johnson, in partnership with New Art City, Olamina Faction at Parsons School of Design, The New School USS, Decoding Stigma and Beverly’s NYC. black beyond is a New York Foundation for the Arts fiscally sponsored project.
