Bop It! is a monthly program that sonically navigates underground music, past and present. From early 90’s mix cd’s and tapes, to monthly Bandcamp Friday releases, Bop It! explores the importance of electronic music’s means of community building within the anti-public landscape that is the greater Los Angeles area.

For our October edition of bop it! we celebrate a spooky month and all its horrors.

The intersection of Belgian New Beat, Chicago Acid House, and proto hardcore meet through the plasticfication of Hollywood. The characteristics of squelches, growls, snaps, and twists, are informed by science fiction, latex plastic, food coloring, and sample records of screams, monsters, and torture. The peak of practical effects run in tandem with music technology and culture creating a feedback loop soundtracking one another. The A + B + Fill pattern telling a predictable, yet steady thrill similar to the flow of a horror narrative. Though each musical style has an origin and historical context, when presented alongside one another.
