MARIO MARZIDOVŠEK (1961-2011) was a key figure in the 80’s DIY community of his native land of Yugoslavia (now Slovenia). His unique, cerebral brand of lo-fi electronic music was highly influential as were the pioneering actions of self-recording and self-releasing his and other people’s work on Yugoslavia’s first private non-commercial label Minimal Laboratorium (an illegal action at the time). He often set up concerts featuring a wide variety of local underground musics that supported and encouraged this growing DIY community. Marzidovšek was quite involved with international tape-trading at this time and single-handedly circulated a hefty amount of cassettes within just 6 active years (1983-1988). He never released any vinyl or CDs and we haven’t yet seen proper collections or reissues of these extremely rare artifacts, so hopefully this here encapsulation will suffice for the time being.
