SATURDAYS OFF THE 405: MAS EXITOS

Mas Exitos, the legendary twice-a-month event held at the Verdugo Bar in Highland Park, comes to the Getty! The DJ collective—featuring Lengua, Hoseh, Ganas, and Enorbito—unfold their international music selections and transform the Museum Courtyard into a hot spot south of the border.
Think of it as a National Geographic documentary on sound that takes you from the Andes of Peru to the streets of Mexico City to the East Side of L.A.—cumbias, low-rider music, tropicalia, funky jazz oddities, y más. Listen as the crew plays their heritage on turntables.

SATURDAYS OFF THE 405: THE DODOS

The Dodos create an energetic sound with guitar and drums—music that perfectly compliments a summer night outdoors at Saturdays Off the 405. The band features the acoustic artistry of Meric Long, who launched his career gigging around San Francisco playing folky guitar with a combination of loops, ambient keyboards, West African Ewe drumming, and country-blues fingerpicking, and drummer Logan Kroeber, who came out of progressive metal.
Their psych-folk sound has been described as “joyously taut indie-rock” reminiscent of the Violent Femmes, Clinic, and Roxy Music.
Sets from DJ Turquoise Wisdom are also on tap.

THURSDAY, November 12th

McCoy Tyner might have revolutionized jazz piano with his right hand tied behind his back. It was his explosively percussive left hand and rich harmonic chords that transcended conventional styles, starting from his first days as a teen in the immeasurably influential John Coltrane Quartet. The master pianist, who is still brimming with inventiveness after more than 80 albums, performs here with his trio and special guest Grammy-winning saxophonist Gary Bartz. Opening the concert is the massive L.A.-based ensemble Build An Ark, whose soulful improvised music draws on the collective talents and influences of about 20 musicians on stage, including hypnotic vocalist Dwight Trible.
