On Wednesday, May 18th 2011 dublab and Origami Vinyl proudly co-presented the From Vision to Vinyl: A Step-by-Step Look at Vinyl Production a panel at the The Grammy Museum. We are excited to bring you this archive of the happening.
From tracking and mastering audio, through pressing, packaging and design, this panel addressed the entire vinyl manufacturing process. Independent artists and labels releasing vinyl for the first time, those looking to reacquaint themselves with the process, or music fans interested in learning more were encouraged to attend. Moderated by Neil Schield of Origami Vinyl, an all-vinyl record store and independent label in Echo Park, “From Vision to Vinyl” not only offered a behind the scenes look at manufacturing, it also provided guidance for maximizing the creative options available for a vinyl release while staying on schedule and within budget. Panelists included Pete Lyman of Infrasonic Sound Recording Co., Kevin Smith of Bill Smith Custom Records, Jennifer Freund of DoradoPkg and DJ/Founder of Stones Throw Records, Peanut Butter Wolf.
dublab’s Frosty kicked off the event with a DJ set of odd vinyl formats such as flexi, picture, and shaped discs. Following the panel disussion Peanut Butter Wolf played a set of all 3″ vinyl records!
