F.R. DAVID – WORDS
Last night I saw Piper from Puro Instinct at Grown, the awesome fun night put together by SFV Acid and friends every Wednesday, and we started talking about our mutual love for F.R. David. I told her I saw her pick for this obscure gem in her LA Record interview and how much his song “Words” means to me. This track is big part of my childhood, hot summers at the beach in Punta del Este, and dreamy 80s vacations. For years I kept singing that song without knowing who it was, and then when the whole internet thing started taking shape and more info was available, one night i typed the few words I remembered from this song and found it. It was like finding a big piece of the puzzle!!!

Hung Cuong & Mai le Huyen – Thien Duyen Tien Dinh
While researching sights and sounds for the forthcoming “Vibrant Vietnam” mix coming soon as part of the dublab “Field Reports” project on music.vtechphones.com we came across this amazing 80′s Viet-gem from Hung Cuong & Mai le Huyen. The quick cut edits at the beginning will get your head flipped while the synthesizers sweep you away to a land of floral flirtation. * Note to Ariel Pink: please cover this on your next album.
Ok, we couldn’t resist sharing this one from Mai le Huyen as well. 80′s super seizure…

Jump along on an adventure in simultaneous existence. This is an exploration of exorcism exercises with Gangi. We urge you to not let a little blood freak you out. Free your mind for the full picture. This is another chapter of revolution happening in Cuba and Los Angeles at the exact same moment.

Our favorite pals from the world of micro-musical-montage are back. The Books have just released their brand new gem of a mind bender, an album entitled “the Way Out.” We suggest you take the first step in this out there adventure by watching the above video full of the most creative violence we’ve witnessed. If you need anymore enticing to enter their ecstatic collage action then put your ears into their legendary dublab mixes: A Collage Crystallization / dublab found sound session

Tonalism 2010 : West Coast Tour movie by the Masses
Open wide to a new world. Expansive radiance awaits in this environment of elevation. We have entered a glowing landscape of transformational tones. The horizon line fades and every edge softens. Natural laws dissolve as we float on pure sound particles. Vibration has become the new vision and your being beams brightly, blurring into harmonic hum with the universe. “You” and “I” are no longer. This is all together. Transformation complete.
The aforementioned experience may seem like a dream, and it surely is, but this dream flashed into reality as dublab voyaged up the west coast this past March to present Tonalism, an all-night ambient happening, at Reed Arts Week in Portland, Oregon. Along the way Golden Hits, Pharaohs and Suzanne Kraft played shows in Oakland, communed aloft in the branches of tree houses and enjoyed fun infused moments along the golden coast.
Matt Amato, Benjamin Kutsko and Grant Leuchtner of the the Masses documented the journey on a few super compact Digital Harinezumi cameras. Enjoy this film documenting the Tonalism 2010 west coast tour in saturated sights and sounds.
When italo disco takes too much: Bizzy & Co – Take a Chance [1982]
A warm summer afternoon at the dublab office. Ale and I are having are talking music, as we do. We’ve got a thing for older electronic dance music. With little warning, I unleash this monster. No one was ready, especially not for the break. Not only is the track an italo disco grenade, but it is also safe to say has one of the wildest music videos ever filmed by cameras with a computer generated background added to it. To think this was aired on network TV and used to promote a soap opera! This little gem reeks of excess, hedonism and chemistry, who as are the three pillars of the Holy Trinity of disco. Every time I watch it I’m thankful that those behind it took such a chance!

We’re about to launch a new dublab feature called Sprout Session Studio Scenes. These are films of dublab sessions creatively captured as they happened in our studio. In preparing for this new offering we scoured our archives and found this lost classic filmed way back in 2007. We hope you dig it!
Miguel Atwood-Ferguson & Peter Jacobson are friends with strings in sync. They brought their master musicianship so full of soul and light to the dublab studio and out flowed an incredible, improvised stream of shining sound. We urge you to tune in and turn onto these high beams.

DOWNLOAD: RAS G “PLANET AUSTIN INVASION” MP3
See creative beat-making in motion. The beat in this film was created by Ras G one afternoon in Austin. All the sounds came from a small stack of wax bought in a single thrift store that same day.
The film was made by Alexandra Pelly and completed just hours after the music was created. We shared it with an enthusiastic audience that same evening to cap off the screening of our Secondhand Sureshots documentary film at the Alamo Draft House Cinema in Austin, Texas.
We hope it inspires you to make some music magic of your own!
