Los Angeles native, Cut Chemist started DJing in 1984 at age 11 years old. Throughout the years of raps golden age, Cut absorbed as much knowledge as he could about hip-hop listening to radio mix shows and going to performances when age limits would permit. He began producing rap music in 1987 with his friends Chali 2na and Marc 7. In 1994, Cut helped form both the rap group Jurassic 5 and the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. Keeping his involvement with both groups in tandem with one another, Cut has developed a taste for music and rhythms from around the world while keeping his ethic for the hip-hop tradition. With live releases such as his African music inspired “Sound Of The Police” and the origins of hip-hop tribute, “Renegades Of Rhythm” with DJ Shadow, Cut has a reputation for fusing cultural education while entertaining.
