As an archivist / librarian, T-Kay brings an eye and ear for the historical, unique, and transnational to her musical curation. The Archive of Feelings is a celebration of sounds and struggles of everyday life across linguistic and geographic boundaries gathered through serendipitous findings from around the world. T-Kay joined the dublab family as an intern in 2006 and hosted her first show “The Afternoon Love-In” in early 2007. Prior to dublab, T-Kay hosted “Hooray for Everything!” from 2001-2005 on KSPC Radio (Claremont, CA) and “Hip Hop Hooray” from 2009-2015 on KOOP Radio (Austin, TX).
On this month’s episode, T-Kay is joined by Venezuelan tattoo artist, record digger and DJ, Alfonso aka Del Caribe. Tune in for a special two hour set of records from across the Caribbean.
Alfonso aka Del Caribe was born and raised in Caracas surrounded by salsa musicians and Afro Caribbean music. Growing up going to rehearsals with his father who was a salsa percussionist and music collector, he developed his passion for live music and record digging. After moving to the US in 2015, he began to archive Venezuelan music history and tell his own migration story through collecting and sharing Venezuelan records. From ethnographic to salsa to Afro Venezuelan and all the genres in between, Del Caribe has amassed one of the most complete discographies of Venezuelan music. You can find him spinning at Mosaico, his monthly residency with El Marchante, at the Goldfish in Highland Park on the first Thursday of the month.
