Jess believes music from the Asia Pacific is often overlooked and deserves to be highlighted to more global audiences. The show dives into all genres from all centuries; from disco to indie rock, to electronic to funk.

Samara Alofa (They/Them/She) Multidisciplinary Artist, Producer/Musician/Songwriter based in Tamaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, NZ).

Influenced by local hip-hop and r&b artists in their early stages of their musical endeavours Samara started out as a soft voice on the hooks of their mates rap songs, then moving through the underground theatre and performance art scene of Tamaki Makaurau and Naarm (Melbourne). Samara has been sound bending as a soundscape composer for independent QBIPOC artists in dance, theatre and film for the past 4 years. A former member of the experimental performance art group ‘Blood Mothers’ which was formed in 2019 with Artist ‘Native Bush’ they were caught expressing their observations in the underground experimental/electronic music scene of Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland, NZ) and Poneke (Wellington,Nz). With their most recent release, ‘Earth Punk’ an EP which they wrote and produced/mixed and mastered, samara made their move out of the cosy shadows of composing and released their works with fake Record Label ‘Kuini Qontrol’, birthed by the genius’ and dynamic duo ‘Coco Solid’ and ‘Big Fat Raro’. Sharing sounds drawn from diverse experiences, Samara’s output is rather unconventional and constantly evolving. True to the hybrid essence of the Aotearoa Music Scene, in this mix they share sounds of local artists from all parts of their journey, friends, mentors and initiators.
