The More You Look
02.03.25

The More You Look is a monthly tribute to sonic elements that have inspired Stemi’s artistry. From experimental electronic music to sounds of West Africa, this show aims to explore the interconnectedness of human experience primarily in a black culture context. Each episode includes voice recordings from those within her community in correlation to the theme of each episode. Through these voices and sonic transmissions, The More You Look aims to connect more synapses in the web collective consciousness.
SME_R.MX.mp3 is a mix celebrating the one-year anniversary of Osadolor’s sound art & podcast project, STROKE_MY_EGO_RE.MIXED. This experimental project reworks the worldwide charting stroke my ego (2022) series on his podcast, a coming of age, but irl, to carefully document their coming of age with recorded reflections, conversations, and candid moments of Blackqueerness. Osadolor further expands the sonic possibilities of podcasting to embody her ever-growing sense of self. STROKE_MY_EGO_RE.MIXED is an abstraction of an album pushed forward through Osadolor’s fluid curation of fleeting yet thought-provoking interludes.
Inspired by the sonic textures of southern hip-hop radio stations, SME_R.MX.mp3 transforms the journey of STROKE_MY_EGO_RE.MIXED into a dynamic mix beyond genre to emulate the emotional and topical complexity of Osadolor’s sensibility. The visual accompaniment of the mix, SME_R.MX.mp4, is the documentation of a live art performance.
Limited edition archival gold CDs of STROKE_MY_EGO_RE.MIXED, featuring an extended version of the project and a CD case designed by Osadolor, are available now. All profits from CD purchases will go towards the Black Trans Rent and Gender Affirming Surgery Fund by For The Gworls.
Osadolor is a New York-based director, visual maker, creative researcher, and sound designer. His experiences, [physical, social, and cultural] environments, and media consumption continue to shape their nuanced thoughts on life as a Blackqueer Nigerian American born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Moments of discovery, reflection, introspection, and the messy flux of self/communal realization influence her Lo-Fi videos, experimental sonic design, expressive photography, mixed-media presentations of digital manipulations, texturized designs, intricate yet fluid drawings, and his overall multifaceted sense of direction.
