Celsius Drop
12.02.21

On his weekly Celsius Drop show, dublab co-founder Frosty guides you through an exploration of the vast Future Roots music spectrum.
On this special episode we pay tribute to the wondrous creative visionary Laurie Anderson whose work has inspired the world so much over the years and continues to do so.
The show opens with a rare radio piece by Dolores Brandon titled Laurie Anderson: The Woman and her Music 1987. The program features her January 11, 1987 interview with Laurie Anderson alongside a densely layered audio collage of spoken word and music. Following Dolores’ audio piece, you’ll hear an interview Frosty conducted with Laurie Anderson on March 28, 2015 at the Big Ears Festival for RBMA Radio’s storied Fireside Chat series.
Laurie Anderson – The Woman and her Music 1987:
“Laurie Anderson, darling of the electronic audio, multimedia performance scene in the late 1980’s, was the perfect subject for me– an independent producer working at WBAI-FM RADIO in New York. My ambition then was to create long form audio-collage-style profiles of contemporary artists across a broad spectrum of disciplines; artists whose work fascinated me and spoke to issues of broad public concern. My approach was to weave segments taken from Anderson’s extensive recorded works of the time, place those alongside her own musings on that work as told to me in an in-depth one-on- one interview. The result— an audio portrait that takes the listener on a journey into the mind of Laurie Anderson, the Woman and her Art.” – Dolores Brandon
This program originally aired in 1987 on WBAI-FM, New York and KPFA-FM, San Francisco. You can read the interview highlight transcript here. Thanks to Dolores for generously sharing this audio document with dublab and to audio engineer Stephen Erickson who realized the final mix.
