Contact Wave
06.16.24
Contact Wave enthusiastically celebrates the best experimental, avant-garde, psychedelic, and off-the-grid music crafted in L.A. and beyond.
In this episode, Chuck and Chris talk with sound artist and author C. Lavender. We discuss the many ways that Lavender’s ethos of listening awareness finds expression, including her great catalog of recordings, her sound healing and educational practices, and her 2020 book Transcendent Waves: How Listening Shapes Our Creative Lives, a colorful and inquisitive exploration of the world of sound. We also discuss her brand-new album Rupture in the Eternal Realm, a reinterpretation and compendium to her experience studying a Tibetan Buddhist meditation practice centered in detachment from one’s body.
C. Lavender has performed, lectured, and hosted workshops at MoMA, The Whitney, The Guggenheim, Hirshhorn Museum, The Rubin Museum, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Fridman Gallery, Cafe Oto, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute among other venues. She has albums and recordings featured on the labels Editions Mego, Ecstatic Peace! and RVNG Intl. C. Lavender has been artist-in-residence at Pioneer Works, Harvestworks, A+E Lab (UK), and Wave Farm.
