HOUR ONE: Give a Little Whistle! with Povshie

This one is for the birds—on today’s Puppetphonic, all songs procured from Bob Baker’s personal collection of 5000+ vinyls contain whistling. Phhuuwwweeeeet-Phheeew ! Put on your best chapstick and listen in to relish in the strange and delightful. Surely you’ll leave chirping like a canary…

Povshie (aka Sophie Wilkes) began at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater as a fabrication workshop intern while pursuing a degree in puppetry at NYU. She now works as a puppeteer for the theater and cannot imagine a more perfect place!

HOUR TWO: DJ Starlight Presents: My Birthday at Bob’s

Birthday parties have been a staple at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater since it opened in 1963. Hundreds, if not thousands, of kids (or kids at heart) have celebrated with the puppets and the people of BBMT over the last 60 years. An unforgettable time is practically guaranteed once you sport your very own solid gold, adjustable crown and enjoy a sweet treat with all your favorite people. Today (March 10th), DJ Starlight is among the proud group of individuals who celebrate growing another year older within the walls of the theater. They have assembled this musical selection to showcase the artists and songs quintessential to their very being, with the hope that you can learn a little more about your favorite interstellar DJ and be inspired to come party by their side.

DJ Starlight (BBMT puppeteer, Diego Montoya) is celebrating 29 complete rotations around the sun of the Solar System that your Earth calls home during this special broadcast! Since Bob Baker Marionette Theater is famous for these so-called “birthday parties”, they thought it was the perfect place to spend their morning. It should come as no surprise to anyone that this is actually not the first birthday they’ve spent at the theater, and it certainly won’t be their last.–
