A lifelong pianist and classically trained musician, James Axon spent years in jazz bands, orchestras, and contemporary music ensembles before falling in love with the sounds of modern house and techno. Today, he draws upon his musicality and eclectic taste as a DJ and remixer that espouses an expansive vision of dance music, often mixing seamlessly between all varieties of house, techno, italo, electro, disco, IDM and breakbeat. Often drawn to the grey area territory music that defies genre conventions, all of Axon’s selections stem from a deep intrigue with the infinite possibilities of synthesizers and sound design, with an affinity for tracks that strike a balance between being physically effective on a soundsystem and exhibiting enough interesting musicality to transcend being purely functional. Axon is the co-founder, resident, and programmer of the popular queer underground Planet Love, and has played for clubs and parties like Good Room, Por Detroit, and Sunday Sunday CDMX.
