Starting off the week with a bang, here is a sneak preview from Teengirl Fantasy’s forthcoming album 7AM. Their music is a beautiful journey through rippled-out landscapes with buoyant rhythms and truly unique textures, 7AM explores the dimension where dance beats mingle with hallucinogenic vibes. Perhaps one of the most straightforward dance tracks on the album, “Cheaters” is a beautiful upbeat jam conjuring ghosts of Chicago house divas and warehouse walls. This is a perfect introduction to Teengirl Fantasy’s universe. We can’t wait for their album to arise!

We’re thrilled about this merging of creative entities. Longtime dublab friends Meanest Man Contest are married in this musical moment to LA’s great Superhumanoids. No need for a tuxedo to celebrate this union, just dress your ears with excitement and prepare to soar along. Like most relationships this one is comfortable in its duality. At moments they dip into touches of doom and gloom but rise again in gauzy bliss. These are humans at work together. We ask that as you celebrate this coming together you keep that rice in your pocket to avoid exploding pigeons.

Nick Rosen is a beloved member of LA’s vibrant, organic music community. He has contributed his considerable talents to some of the most heartfelt projects that have surfaced from this city. Build an Ark and the Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra have benefited from the vibration of his bass tones. He has also collaborated with elder geniuses including Henry Grimes, Charlie Haden and Bennie Maupin. Now, Nick has released “Into the Sky” on Porter Records. For this album he gathered a group of equally inspired players to create an ode to beautiful infinity. This song, “African Sun,” arranged by frequent sound partner Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, is a glimmer of the majestic and intimate shades of sound that can be found within Nick’s new album.

The first single from Psychic Powers’ new record “Infinity.” On “Glide” Psychic Powers goes to the dance beats of the early 90s, and combines them with a strong songwriting style. Psychic Powers has been releasing limited but beautiful songs ever since their inception, their “Frozen EP” on RCRD LBL and “Wellington” on Geographic North are amazing. After a two month collaboration between Ale and Nik, “Glide” is one of the songs that came from those sessions. As a “B side” for this release Psychic Powers included the song “Blue Icing”, which is not included in the album. This tune continues with the idea of late 80s/early 90s dance beats, but more on the rave aspect of it, rather than on the floating Madchester vibe that “Glide” has.

Charanjit Singh must have hit a magic, time travel, musical chord while twisting analog synthesizer knobs. He seems to have flashed to the future for an electronic epiphany at a UK rave circa 1991 then brought this sound inspiration back to his 1982 Bombay studio. Synthesizing: Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat is a magically crafted album of classical Indian sounds through a heavy acid lens. Enjoy this tune from Bombay Connection’s beautifully packaged re-release of this lost, electronic gem.

Recently we held a live dublab transmission in support of our brother Justin “Kutmah” McNulty who is being uprooted from his LA home of over 20 years and deported to the UK. We broadcast an entire day of Kutmah’s dublab show “Sketchbook” as his friends came in to voice their support and raise donations for his deportation defense fund.
dublab dj Nanny Cantaloupe treated the transmission in real time with one magnetic tape loop to create this 12 minute sound scramble honoring Kutmah. We hope you enjoy the result. Kutmah will always be a vital part of the dublab family and a loved member of the Los Angeles creative community.

BLAZT OFF, a mix by Los Angeles’ own DJ Kutmah, showcases the individual styles of Computer Jay, J1, and D-F. Collectively, they are known as Master Blazter. Individually, each is accomplished in his own right, and as a group, there is no stopping the funk they create. Each individual is an integral part of the whole – each one necessary to keep funk music alive, taking it to unforeseen heights.
Computer Jay develops hard hitting tracks built upon moog, rhodes and personally tweaked electro systems. J1 provides the backbone of rhythm on drums, while equally being comfortable producing quality funk laced beats. D-F adds his signature vocals and provides layers of deep funk with his own keyboards and keytar.
