Mahssa’s dublab future roots mix cd “Oyun Havasi!”
designed by: Tandy Love
This fourth installment of DUBLAB’S “Future Roots” mix CD series comes courtesy of Mahssa Taghinia, an Iranian music magnet living in Los Angeles. A dedicated vinyl librarian and archaeologist she runs the US branch of the flawless Finders Keepers Records and is a regular contributor to dublab.com. Here’s what Mahsaa has to say about her sparkling Middle Eastern sound offering…
“OYUN HAVASI! is a celebration of music and culture from the Bosphoros of Turkey, to the Bandar shores of Iran, into the streets of Beirut… and beyond. This is ethnic folk, funk and fuzz echoed from the familiar, opulent sounds of my childhood and relayed to open ears and minds: a musical reconnaissance conducted – as the “quest for the perfect beat” knows no cultural boundaries. And of course, every-little-thing is all the more vibrant when shared. Rare Lebanese, Persian, Azari, Turkish, Egyptian, Kurdish, and Tunisian folk – handpicked vinyl passed down from family, discovered, and sought out from the streets themselves.”
