Pretty Gay Friendly w/ Boy Untitled - Let's Be Friends

Julia Holter has two beautiful new 8mm videos by Rick Bahto. The first is for “World”, a track from her upcoming album Loud City Song, due out on Domino Records in August. The piercing lucidity of this track paired with Bahto’s shimmering orbs of traveling light and careful punctuation of ghostly black and white footage with brightly sunlit color stock, is pure poetry. We can’t wait to hear more!

The other track “Finale” is from Julia’s first album Tragedy, originally released on Leaving Records, and now re-issued by Domino. This video haunts us with black and white visions of the sea and ethereally lit shots of Julia performing on the shore by a campfire. Interwoven throughout are images of Julia presenting us with text from Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Ubervilles: A Pure Woman Faithfully Presented, a classic tale of a woman’s struggle against domineering men and oppressive social standards.
