Hoseh – “Hot Pop” Mix Tape (1996)

“The summer of 1996 meant legal drinking for me and it also led to a haze of harmonies that inspired a 5 cassette tape collection that helped raise funds for my beloved KXLU 88.9 FM. As a 6-10am morning rock DJ, I enjoyed sharing all sorts of sounds with listeners besides the electronics on my “Headspace” show. One of my guiltiest pleasures was sharing all sorts of pop music from the power pop of Shoes to the fuzz of Further. This led to the “Hot Pop” mix recorded sometime between 2-6am live on air. Only 20 copies of this tape were made, and as you can see, it was at a time that I was still spelling my name as my parents meant for it to be. The switch to Hoseh came a couple of years later, but my enduring love for these jangly jams continues to this day. Let me know what you think and perhaps I’ll unearth the other cassettes from the series. Enjoy!” – Hoseh
