Dublab:Tonalism: An All Night Ambient Music Happening

This all-night ambient happening is crafted by Los Angeles-based web-radio station and creative collective dublab.com. It is an experience inspired by the 1960’s sound-art actions of Marion Zazeela, Lamonte Young, Terry Riley and Yoko Ono. With an array of DJ sets, live performances and visuals, dublab will create an experience for the senses. The audience is encouraged to bring pillows, sleeping bags and wide open ears. Dream to deep drones and space waves in a stunning surround sound/sight environment. Far-out djs, bands and projectionists create a seamless tapestry of vibrant tones conjured to turn you on. Tonalism will occur from 6:00pm – 6:00am on Saturday, March 6, in the Student Union. The event is free, open to the public, and 18+.

The subtle tapping of raindrops provides the sonic foundation for Endless Falls, the fifth full length album by loscil. Drawn from the template of a constant drizzle, the subtle precipitative rhythms and microscopic textures throughout create an immersive and emotional environment. “Dub for Cascadia,” transmutes the repetitive motion of windshield wipers into meditative concentration, the perfect soundtrack for driving in a mist or just watching the rain hit the glass. This creative evening happens under Reclamation Project’s newest installation, “Aquarium.”

Visitors climb a ten foot staircase to feed reclaimed water into a plumbing system consisting of hundreds of used plastic bottles filled with sand, charcoal, gravel, and rocks suspended from the ceiling by the strength of hundreds of plastic bags. With the power of gravity, the water snakes and zigzags through this aqueduct/filtration system and empties purified into a modular pyramidal garden composed of food-producing, carnivorous, and water plants. Only the good Alfred Darlington, better known as dublab’s own dandy Daedelus, could successfully turn a springtime anthem of breezy bossanova into the crux of a monumental, albeit brief, historical concept album rooted in 19th century China’s epic, unfortunate, and tragically imaginative Boxer Rebellion. The forward-thinking folks at Brainfeeder dare to release said album, which shall be titled “Righteous Fists of Harmony” on the 23rd day of March, two thousand and ten. Meanwhile, enjoy “Order of the Golden Dawn,” featuring the lovely Laura Darling, and as an added bonus check out this video featuring the grand finale, “Fin De Siècle.”
