Thursday, March 15 2018
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Here it is, highly honed and happening for YOU. On his weekly Celsius Drop show, dublab co-founder Frosty guides you through an exploration of the vast Future Roots music spectrum. Tune-in to grasp your destiny.
In the 11am hour this week, Frosty welcomes MJ Lallo onto the airwaves! Lallo’s cosmic cruising Star Child 12 inch was just released on the excellent Sceance Centre label and there’s a 2xLP of her works on the way.
Lallo is an award-winning composer, singer, and voice over artist. Lallo uses her voice to sound like trumpets, bass, cello, birds and drums. Often what you think is an instrument is actually her voice. She opened MJ Productions in San Francisco in 1983 as a post production house specializing in music and SFX. In 1998 she moved to LA and in 2000 she opened her own professional recording studio, where she scores music as well as sings in character voices for animation. Her music can be heard on feature film soundtracks for MCA Universal, Columbia Pictures and Amazon Prime. Some of her clients are NASA, Hitachi, Levi’s, Dunkin Donuts, Breyers Ice Cream, and CitiBank.
Lallo is also a published poet, and has composed for theatre and dance, winning 9 ASCAP Popular Panel Awards. She scored for her own one woman show Get A Life performed at the New Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, the Polly Hannah Klaas Performing Arts Center in Petaluma, CA, and The Luther Burbank Performing Arts Center in Santa Rosa, CA.
The Channeled Voice was her first album of Vocalese New Age Music self-released on limited run cassette in 1988. In 2002, she released Voices from the Night Sky on CD and digitally. MJ Lallo was most influenced by Flora Purim’s latin jazz vocals. In 1988, she handed Flora her cassette and after hearing it, Flora said, “Lallo, keep doing what you are doing.” And Lallo did!
