12/11/18 Broadcasts

  • 9:00am – 10:00am Kompakt – MIX FOR DUBLAB

On the occasion of Wolfgang Voigt’s first appearance in Los Angeles performing GAS live at The Regent Theater on 23 November, Kompakt Records has compiled a specialpodcast presenting the more darker, ambient and experimental sides of the Cologne label. It features some of Wolfgang’s music (including the unreleased live project “Konstrakt”, of course GAS, then Mohn w/ Jörg Burger and “Rückverzauberung”) as well as tracks from close label friends and musicians that are especially admired at the Kompakt Office.

The 71-minutes long podcast was selected, mixed and recorded by Heiner Hersemann for Kompakt Records, September 2018. Heiner is the newest addition to the Kompakt family. Apart from being a very talented DJ he is taking care of the social media management at the Kompakt label headquarter in Cologne.

  • 10:00am – 12:00pm Frosty – Celsius Drop

Each week dublab co-founder Frosty guides you through an exploration of the vast Future Roots music spectrum on Celsius Drop. Tune-in to reach those outer realms.

  • 10:00am – 12:00pm Frosty w/guest Tashi Wada – Celsius Drop

Here it is, highly honed and happening for YOU. On his weekly Celsius Drop show, dublab co-founder Frosty guides you through an exploration of the vast Future Roots music spectrum. Tune-in to grasp your destiny.

In the 11am hour of the show this week, Frosty will be joined by Tashi Wada. Wada is a Los Angeles-based composer and performer whose works explore harmonic overtones, resonance, and dissonance through precise tuning and gradual change in pitch. Grounded in a belief that “music should be as direct as possible,” his compositions use apparently simple structures to generate rich and unanticipated perceptual effects.

Working in relation to American experimental music, microtonal music, and so-called drone music, Wada’s practice is also informed by interdisciplinary performance and Fluxus-affiliated artists. He studied composition at CalArts with James Tenney, and has presented his work throughout the United States and Europe often in collaboration with other artists including Charles Curtis, Julia Holter, and his father, Yoshi Wada.

Wada’s music has been released by Yik Yak, De Stijl Records, and via his own imprint Saltern, which he runs from Los Angeles. His most recent album Nue, is out on Brooklyn-based label RVNG Intl.

Wada appears on dublab to share music and insight in advance of the Nue album release event at Zebulon on October 17th. This free concert will feature the Tashi Wada group (Tashi, Corey Fogel & Julia Holter) plus special guests including Simone Forti and Jessika Kenney. Carlos Niño and Pete Swanson will enhance the atmosphere with DJ sets. More information here.

  • 12:00pm – 2:00pm Jimmy Tamborello – Dying Songs

“Dying Songs” focuses on melancholic electronic music but isn’t limited to that. Sometimes it gets dark, sometimes I try to mix techno awkwardly, sometimes i get nostalgic… I like stuff that’s dreamy, ghostly, pretty and sad. I’ll try out new productions of my own, as well. I’m keeping it pretty open and we’ll see how it evolves.” – Jimmy

  • 8:00pm – 10:00pm Induce – Dancing, Thinking, Loving, Listening

It all started with these words from Induce, “Bout to get on and play some weird stuff @dublab till about 4. Tune in!” Then the lightning split the sky and all the sounds from the dublab studio on this oblate spheroid called Planet Earth were pulled into the cosmos in a single beam of high lumen energy. From this newly elevated point they hit the universal prism of memory reflection and were split throughout the wide universe. We’re happy you got your radio attuned to Induce’s transmission. Whether you’re hearing this 2 billion years from now or simply right now we know you’ll enjoy the “weird stuff” being offered.
