  • 7:00am – 9:00am Origin Peoples w/ guest Heavy Breathing – Orphic Tracks

For as long as humans have recognized our own world, we have imagined and had visions of other worlds. In our oldest myths, it is the music-makers who are most adept at crossing between worlds, and the legendary musician Orpheus is the most famous and revered, one who could charm the very rocks and trees with his song. The boundaries are not just between physical places, but between life and death, human and non-human, moments in time. Now, at the border of night and day and the beginning of a new month, we present musical reveries to keep you united in liminal states.

Each month, LA-based label Origin People invites guest producers to help program 2 hours of ambient, downtempo, fourth-world melodies, jazz, psych, and folk from beyond the horizon and spanning generations. Selected with the myth of Orpheus in mind, these are sounds made to charm the wild and move even stone to dance. This month’s broadcast brings in guest Mario Martinez (Heavy Breathing) from St. Louis. A frequent guest on Dream Chimney and author of the Escalators in Space and Sounds of the Earth tapes, Martinez is a local treasure vibrating in tune with the rhythms of the universe.

  • 8:00pm – 10:00pm Remy Marc, Travis Castle and Josh Beck w/guest M.E.S.H. – VSSLRadio

Tune in for a special Sunday night edition of VSSLRadio featuring guest M.E.S.H.

James Whipple is a resident at Janus, the Berlin party whose music policy has spread across the world as part of a movement known as deconstructed or experimental club music. His early work as M.E.S.H., including his 2015 album for PAN, Piteous Gate, was among the scene’s most complex and adventurous. He made dance music that was dense with references, samples and explosive sound design, delivered over frantic rhythms partly inspired by the internet’s information overload. With experience, Whipple has streamlined his sound, culminating in his newest album, Hesaitix, where hyperactive rhythms bubble up in between prettier and more restrained passages of ambience.
