Chris Ziegler w/guest Tropa Magica – One Reporter's Opinion
One Reporter’s Opinion—named after Chris Ziegler’s L.A. RECORD review column—is part lesson in lost history and part celebration of the new and the now in the city of Los Angeles, California, where everything happened at least once and anything could happen tomorrow. From demos to dead stock to new releases and the never-released—all genres and generations of musicians from the greater L.A. area are welcome.
Chris Ziegler is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of L.A. RECORD, Los Angeles’ only dedicated music magazine. L.A. RECORD was founded in 2005 on Ziegler’s bedroom floor and has grown into a colossal bimonthly print magazine dedicated to documenting music—in any form—across the greater Los Angeles area. Each issue is a smash-cut collection of famously in-depth interviews with music-makers of all kinds — from Kendrick Lamar to Cherry Glazerr, or Flying Lotus to Foxygen to Les McCann. It is put together by a team of local writers, illustrators, and photographers, with guest contributors like Ty Segall, Kutmah, Tim Presley of White Fence and Nick Waterhouse. Ziegler is also a contributor to MOJO magazine and the local OC and LA Weeklys. He DJs regularly at events around Los Angeles.
The monthly dublab program, One Reporter’s Opinion—named after Chris Ziegler’s L.A. RECORD review column—is one part lesson in lost history and one part celebration of the new and the now in the city of Los Angeles, California, where everything happened at least once, and anything could happen tomorrow. From demos to dead stock to new releases and the never-released—all genres and generations of musicians from the greater L.A. area are welcome.
This program will feature special guest Tropa Magica
Tropa Magica is the new band by brothers David and Rene Pacheco of thee (mighty) Commons, whose psychedelic punk-cumbia magically and cosmically connected at least three continents and as many generations. Now with thee Commons discography triumphantly concluded, Tropa Magica is set to take flight, and we’ll be premiering their extremely potent new single “LSD Roma” today after a special acoustic live set for One Reporter’s Opinion here on dublab!

Aura T-09, a Dublab resident, has been a consistent advocate of producers and styles that seek to free the dance floor from the hegemony of 4/4 beats. She reveals a connection between breakcore, IDM, experimental electronics and a number of vibrant regional dance scenes, refusing to draw a hierarchy between sounds for the mind and those aimed at the body. Her shows on Dublab include Radio T-09, Heart Pressure Radio and The Phuture Perfect.
