    Between Two Points is a monthly transMIXion by Los Angeles based sound artist Richard Chartier for Dublab. A beginning, an end and the layered transitional sonic flow enclosed, ‘between two points’ explores textures, tones, place, and space, featuring experimental, avant-garde, ambient works from the mid-20th century through to our current time. A mysterious progression unfolding for your ears.

    Chartier’s critically acclaimed sound works have been published since 1998 on a variety of labels internationally including Room40 (Australia), Editions Mego (Austria), Important Records (US), Ash International (UK), Raster-Noton (Germany), Spekk (Japan), Trente Oiseaux (Germany), NVO (Austria), Farmacia901 (Italy), 12k (US), and his own imprint LINE (US).

    He has collaborated with composer William Basinski, sound artists ELEH, CoH, France Jobin, Robert Curgenven, Taylor Deupree, AGF, and Yann Novak, and German electronic music pioneer Asmus Tietchens. In installation form, he has created works with multimedia artists Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand, visual artist Linn Meyers, and projected light artist Anthony McCall. Under his guise Pinkcourteseyphone, an ambient project restarted in 2012, he has collaborated with Cosey Fanni Tutti, Kid Congo Powers, harpist Gwyneth Wentink, AGF, and thereminist Evelina Domnitch.

    Chartier’s sound works/installations have been presented in museums and galleries internationally including the Whitney Biennial and the influential sound art exhibit Sounding Spaces at NTT/ICC in Tokyo. His performances have occurred live across Europe, Japan, Australia, and North America.

    Since 2000, Chartier has curated his influential recording label LINE (www.lineimprint.com), publishing nearly 100 editions documenting the compositional and installation work of international sound and video artists who explore the aesthetics of contemporary and digital minimalism.

    Chartier (often as Pinkcourtesyphone) began DJing in 1991. He currently co-hosts Procedure, a monthly evening audio parade (with Ale Cohen, Maria Minerva, and special guests) at ETA in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles on the last Thursday of each month, 9pm-1am.

He has written and performed music as part of numerous projects and groups, including Languis, Pharaohs and Psychic Powers. He is also a composer of music for TV shows, documentaries and educational materials. Ale works at dublab as part of the full time office team along with frosty and Lavenders.

    This program will feature special guest Jerod Rivera.
    Jerod Rivera is a musician born and raised in Southern California. Using various analog equipment and a modular synth, inspired by sci-fi, comics and video games, his compositions are built on repetition, rhythm, and texture. His work today lies somewhere between techno, industrial, and experimental music, and he releases various projects on his imprint, Rank Limited. His previous projects include Italic Indian that was active in Los Angeles from 2008-2011. He currently lives in Oakland.

    An agent provocateur of sonics, with a crepuscular norwegian background heavy on classic synthesizers and vintage tape recorders, schwarzmodul has spent years connecting wires, sounds and ideas in subversive ways. a project by now la-based recording artist, remixer and film composer ‘cato’, schwarzmodul produces sunless, glitchy dark ambient techno, as well as experimental video and art photography, reacting to big city machinery, sonorities and dilapidated architecture, inspired inversely by the glitz of hollywood and the grimy trenches of downtown la and beyond.

    schwarzmodul’s first s/t release for track number records was forged inside an industrial bunker and accompanied by an xlr8r video premiere. schwarzmodul is featured on robot koch’s “tsuki” and “hypermoment” releases on monkeytown records, and as one of the invited artists for native instruments ‘komplete sketches’.

    as cato he has written scores and music for feature films like “stone” (robert de niro), remixed t.rex and the who and has had his work featured in over 600 major movie trailers and commercials. cato also releases music under the monikers “onecarreratwo” and “circadian delays”.

    Inspired by Berlin techno and the environments from which those sounds emanate, KYN is an electronic duo that explores experimental dance music with a dark, minimal and atmospheric aesthetic. With influences from films like Blade Runner, Alien and Ex Machina to the sounds of Northern Electronics, Stephan Bodzin, Ital Tek and Andy Stott, KYN weaves an odyssey of electronic sound through live performance. Using music as catharsis from the often dark world we live in, KYN invites deep contemplation allowing space for escape and movement while finding comfort in things that some find frightening.

    INTL BLK (International Black)’s is a platform for Pan-Afro Anarchist Pop. What does that mean? Well this program will be the perfect introduction. Hosted by founder Chief Boima, he along with special guests, will run through a range of music selections from various countries and languages in order to highlight the beautiful diversity of the Black Atlantic world.
