Bianca Lexis is an LA-based vinyl DJ. She currently holds a residency at Tenants of the Trees in Silverlake every Saturday night and regularly guest DJs around Los Angeles. Growing up listening to both her dad’s new wave records and LA’s old school R&B station Hot92.3, she naturally grew an appreciation for soulful chords, ’80s production and synth sounds. She got her start in radio at KXSC before seriously collecting records and landing an internship at dublab. On Happy Hour, she shares her favorite feel good grooves – cheap or expensive, well-known or obscure, as long as it’s rich in soul and moves you physically and emotionally. Expect to hear some boogie, disco, and ’80s funk, but anything goes.

  • 4:00pm – 6:00pm Hoseh – Version Sounds

    hoseh_10_24_13

“Version Sounds is my interpretation of radio communication, my version. At its roots, the show credits reggae dub for adding so much to the music we listen to today. From there the branches continue to sprout via a myriad of genres and time spans. Colombian cumbias meet Germanic techno dub meets British twee pop. Stereolab and Sun Ra lounge around as Stars of the Lid jam with Prince Jammy. You never know what to expect but you are guaranteed that the now sounds of 2013 will have a toast with the happening sonics of 1968 and beyond!” love, Hoseh

  • 6:00pm – 8:00pm Low Limit – Thank You

    low_limit_thank_you

Low Limit’s THANK YOU show focuses primarily on the more left-leaning mutations of house and techno, but as often is the case, there are no set rules at hand here. Expect surprises.

Most simply, Discostan is a love letter to the Dis-Orient.

Host Arshia Haq is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker, writer and listener with roots in East India by way of Yemen. Radio Discostan presents sounds from Belarus to Burma via Bombay derived from sources as wide as childhood cassettes to friends’ field recordings, with a mainstay of old and new vinyl treasures that delight and confound the ear.
