ETS Goes Pop! with Becky and Nikki, hosts of Bubblegum & Other Delights Elevation Through Sound (02.22.17)

image1

In our premiere show, we set out a smorgasbord of sugary-sweet songs to give listeners with all musical tastes a sampler of the genre. In between tunes, we talked about some of the ingredients that help define bubblegum songs, but stressed that this music often fits into multiple genres. We also discussed how people use bubblegum as a derogatory term to describe music they see as pabulum, beneath them. We explained that Bubblegum & Other Delights plans to do away with that definition by “taking bubblegum back” to its original meaning—a strain of pure pop created roughly between 1968 and 1974 by faceless studio musicians and released under “groovy” band name pseudonyms—and connecting the dots to many of your musical heroes. Come play “Simon Says” and The Six Threes Degrees of the Archies to Zeppelin with us!
