DUBLAB headed to Austin during SXSW, from March 15th-20th 2016, to bring our listeners sets from Exploded Records at JuiceLand, a cozy record shop in the city’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Live performances, DJ sets and interviews from musical friends new and old were broadcast live on dublab from 10am-6pm every day, including sets from NAAFI, Milo, Vibe Music Collective, MNDSGN, Stabil Elite, the Red Light Radio crew, Ela Minus, and many many more.

In 2016, dublab announced that after five years of quietly working to get an FM license, DUBLAB has received a license from the FCC to broadcast on the FM airwaves in Los Angeles. We expect to be on the air by the end of 2017. The decision for dublab to broadcast on the FM airwaves has been a long time in the making, and is part of a larger organizational effort to engage more listeners with our diverse, freeform broadcasts. Los Angeles is the second largest radio market in the US, and we anticipate awareness and listenership of dublab programming to increase dramatically once we get on the FM airwaves.

These events featured performances, DJ sets, and art installations from a number of artists including M. Geddes Gengras, Ahnnu, Secret Circuit, Kuniyuki, Benedek, Nite Jewel, Sage Caswell, Geneva Jacuzzi, Teebs, Frankie Reyes, the Space Lady. In June, we presented a special hip-hop edition of Sleepless at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Music For Train Stations

Screen Shot 2016-12-28 at 10.03.06 PM

In March DUBLAB presented a series at Union Station based on Brian Eno’s pioneering record, “Ambient 1: Music for Airports.” Each event in the four-part series consisted of one DJ set and one live performance inspired by Eno’s work and guests included Electric Sound Bath, Richard Chartier and The Tenses. In an interview with KPCC, Alejandro Cohen, dublab’s Executive Director described the series as a way to shoehorn some joy into Angelenos’ daily commute: “The idea is to offer that glimpse of inspiration during peoples’ busy schedules. Traveling, meeting deadlines, getting to places on time can be, obviously, stressful for everyone.”
